Official rules: Wrapped sharing rewards
Last updated October 12, 2026
Draft for legal review. These rules aren't in effect. Sharing rewards open soon, and the highlighted parts and bracketed notes are for our lawyer to settle first.
These rules cover three rewards for sharing a Wrapped from the Read Receipts Mac app: 10% off for sharing, $15 of credit when a friend orders with your code, and a free paperback for a post that reaches a lot of people. No purchase necessary.
1. Sponsor
The promotion is run by Herald ([Company legal name]), [street address, city, state, ZIP], called "we" below. Read Receipts is our product.
The promotion runs from [Start date] to [End date], Eastern Time, or until we end it under section 13, whichever comes first. A submission counts if we receive it during that time.
2. Who can take part
- You must be 18 or older and a legal resident of the United States (the 50 states and the District of Columbia).
- Our employees, contractors, and the people who live with them or are in their immediate family can't take part.
- The promotion is void where the law prohibits or restricts it.
[For counsel: whether to exclude New York and Florida residents from the free paperback instead of relying on the 50-book cap in section 5 to stay under their $5,000 registration thresholds.]
3. Sharing your Wrapped: 10% off
- Make a Wrapped in the Mac app and post a card or the video on TikTok, Instagram or X, with the disclosure in section 7.
- In the app, send us the post's link, a screenshot of the post, and your email address.
- If the link is a post on one of those platforms and the screenshot is an image, we give you a one-use code for 10% off the books and extras in one order. Shipping isn't discounted.
One code per person, per Mac, per email address and per social account, ever. The code has no cash value, and an order can carry only one discount code. We may check posts after issuing a code, and may cancel a code that hasn't been used, under sections 7 and 12.
4. Referring a friend: $15 credit
Every Mac running Read Receipts has its own referral code, printed small on its Wrapped cards.
- A friend who places their first Read Receipts order with your code gets 10% off the books and extras in that order.
- When their order is paid, we add $15 to a Read Receipts gift card balance for you. It works like any Read Receipts gift card, toward books and shipping, under the gift card section of our terms.
- You can't refer yourself: your code doesn't work on an order from your own Mac, and we may remove credit for an order we find was yours. We may also remove credit for an order that is refunded or cancelled.
- Credit has no cash value, can't be sold or transferred, and can't be exchanged for money.
[For counsel: a cap on referral credit per person, per year, if any.]
5. Going big: a free paperback
- Post your Wrapped on TikTok, Instagram or X, with the disclosure in section 7.
- When the post shows at least 10,000 views or at least 1,000 likes, as the platform displays them, send us its link, a screenshot that shows the count, and the numbers you see, from the app.
- A person on our team reviews every claim. We check that the post exists, is yours, is disclosed, and that the count is real, and we may check again before issuing the reward.
- If it qualifies, we email you a Read Receipts gift card worth one paperback book with economy shipping in the US. Its approximate retail value is [$ARV].
At most one free paperback per person, per Mac, per email address and per social account for the whole promotion. We'll give at most 50 free paperbacks in total, to qualifying claims in the order we approve them, while they last. Once they're gone, later claims won't be rewarded.
The reward is a gift card, not cash, and can't be exchanged for cash or transferred. Upgrades such as a hardcover or faster shipping are yours to pay for.
[For counsel: whether a views or likes threshold brings in an element of chance, so that this counts as a sweepstakes or contest in any state, and how long after posting a count may be reached and claimed.]
6. No purchase necessary
No purchase is necessary to take part or to earn any reward. The Mac app, Wrapped and sharing are free. You don't need to buy anything to earn the free paperback, and buying something doesn't improve your chances of earning it. The 10% code and referral credit are discounts on a future purchase, and earning them needs no purchase either.
[For counsel: whether an alternative method of entry is needed for the free paperback (for example, a mailed or emailed request), and if so how it would work given that every qualifying post earns the reward and there is no drawing.]
7. Disclosure: say it's an ad
A post that earns a reward from us is an advertisement under the US Federal Trade Commission's rules, and it has to say so where people will see it. Every rewarded post must do one of these:
- Put #ad at the start of the caption, and show it in the image or video itself, where it isn't cropped or covered, from the first seconds of a video.
- Use the platform's own paid partnership or branded content label (on TikTok, "Disclose commercial content"), and also put #ad in the caption.
Words like #sp, #partner or #gifted alone, or a disclosure only in the comments, don't count. We may ask you to fix a post that isn't disclosed. If you don't, or if a post was undisclosed when you sent it in, we may cancel unused codes and withhold or take back the reward.
8. Your opinion is up to you
We never ask you to praise Read Receipts. Whether a post earns a reward has nothing to do with what it says about us, and a post that says nothing about us at all qualifies the same way.
9. Real views and likes only
A post doesn't qualify if any of its views, likes or followers were bought or faked. That includes bots, paid boosts or ads, engagement groups or pods, follow-for-follow schemes, and posting the same Wrapped from several accounts. We may disqualify a post, and anyone who sent it, if we believe its numbers were inflated.
10. Platform rules
- Your post must follow the rules and terms of the platform it's on, including its rules on branded content. You're responsible for that.
- Only TikTok, Instagram and X posts qualify. Facebook isn't part of this promotion, and posts on Facebook won't be rewarded.
- This promotion is in no way sponsored, endorsed or administered by, or associated with, TikTok, Instagram, Meta or X. By taking part, you release each of them from any responsibility or liability connected with the promotion. Questions about the promotion go to us, not to them.
11. Your post and what's on it
Wrapped cards show the names you chose for the people in the conversation. Before you post, make sure everyone shown is happy to be in it; you can show each name as initials, in full, or as a name you choose. You keep the rights to your post. By sending it in, you let us view it and keep the screenshot to check your claim.
12. Checking claims, and our decisions
We may check any claim before or after a reward is issued, including asking for more proof. We may refuse, cancel or take back a reward, and disqualify anyone, if we find or reasonably suspect:
- a screenshot that's reused, edited, or of someone else's post
- numbers that were changed or don't match the post
- a post that was deleted, made private or had its disclosure removed before we reviewed it
- several Macs, emails or accounts used to claim more than the limits allow
- any other cheating, or a breach of these rules
Our decisions on whether a post qualifies are final. [For counsel: confirm "final" is acceptable, and add governing law and disputes.]
13. Changing or ending the promotion
We may change these rules, or pause or end the promotion, at any time, including if fraud, a technical problem or anything else outside our control affects it. Changes won't take away a reward we've already issued, unless it was issued in breach of these rules. We'll post changes on this page and change the date at the top.
14. Limits on rewards
- Sharing: one 10% code per person, per Mac, per email address and per social account.
- Referrals: credit only for friends' first paid orders, never your own.
- Free paperback: one per person, per Mac, per email address and per social account, and 50 in total.
- We accept at most three submissions from one Mac in 24 hours.
15. Privacy
Wrapped is made on your Mac, and nothing about the conversation is sent to us. What a submission stores, why, and how long we keep it is in the Wrapped and sharing rewards section of our privacy policy.
16. Taxes
Any taxes on a reward are yours to pay. Each person can earn at most one free paperback, worth well under $600, so we don't expect to issue tax forms. [For counsel: confirm no 1099 is needed, including when referral credit and a paperback go to the same person in one year.]
17. Liability
To the extent the law allows, we aren't responsible for submissions that are lost, late or incomplete, or for problems with a platform, a network or the app that stop a post or a claim from reaching us. [For counsel: the release and limitation of liability wording.]
18. How to reach us
Questions about these rules or a claim: hello@readreceipts.lol, or write to us at the address in section 1. [For counsel: whether to publish a list of free paperback recipients on request.]
