Terms

Read Receipts is a service of Herald ([Company legal name]), called "we" below. By using the Mac app, ordering a book or buying a gift card, you agree to these terms.
What Read Receipts does
The Mac app turns a conversation from Messages into a book. Nothing is rewritten: messages are printed as they were sent, with the changes you make in the app, such as leaving a message out or setting a word in bold. We print the book through Lulu and ship it to the address you give.
Your conversation
When you make a book, you confirm that:
- You're one of the people in the conversation.
- The other person is happy to be in a printed book.
- You have a parent's or guardian's permission for anyone in it under 18.
- Nothing in it breaks the law or someone else's rights.
Our printer doesn't print sexual imagery or content that invades someone's privacy, and neither do we. We or Lulu can decline to print a book. If that happens, we'll refund you in full.
Ordering and paying
Prices are in US dollars and are shown in the app before you pay. Payment goes through Stripe, and we never see your card number. Sales tax is added where it applies. We ship within the United States.
Before you pay, you can page through the whole book. We print exactly what you send, so check names, dates and the dedication first.
Some orders are placed by hand while we're starting out. For those, we email you to confirm the address and take payment before anything is printed.
Delivery dates
Delivery times are estimates from our printer and its carriers. The order-by dates we publish for holidays leave a little room, but we can't promise a date. Expedited and express shipping deliver on weekdays only.
If something goes wrong
If your book arrives damaged or misprinted, or doesn't arrive, write to us within 30 days of delivery (or of the expected date) with a photo if you can. We'll reprint it or refund you.
Every book is made for one person, so we can't take it back if you change your mind once it's at the printer. Until then, you can cancel for a full refund.
Gift cards
- A gift card is bought for the price of a paperback or a hardcover, with economy shipping included.
- The person you give it to makes their book in the Mac app and enters the code when they order. The card pays for the book, up to its balance. Faster shipping or extras are paid on top.
- Anything left on a card stays on it for the next order. Cards don't expire.
- Cards can't be exchanged for cash, except where the law requires it.
- Anyone who has the code can use it, so keep it as you would cash. If a card is lost, the person who bought it can write to us and we'll look it up.
- If you bought a card by mistake, write to us within 30 days and we'll refund it, as long as it hasn't been used.
Your files
We keep your book's files and order details so you can order another copy. Ask us and we'll delete them. Our privacy policy says what we receive and who else sees it.
The app
You may use the Mac app to make books for yourself and the people you give them to. Don't copy, resell or take apart the app. It runs on macOS 26 or later and needs Full Disk Access to read Messages. It's provided as it is, and we can't promise it's free of mistakes.
Our responsibility
As far as the law allows, we're responsible for no more than what you paid us for the order in question, and we aren't responsible for indirect losses. Nothing here takes away rights you have under consumer law.
Changes
We may update these terms. The date at the top will change, and the version in place when you ordered applies to that order.
